Messi Meets America: Behind The Scenes Of His MLS Journey

Apple TV+ documentary showcases Lionel Messi's impact on Inter Miami and the North American soccer scene.

MIAMI — Messi Meets America streams on Apple TV+ that tells the story about the Argentine soccer legend Lionel Messi playing for the MLS team Inter Miami.

The documentary will premiere on October 11 that tells his soccer journey from Argentina, to Europe, and to the United States in the six-part series.

It goes behind the scenes “Messi Mania” of his journey going to Miami where the home games were sellout crowds to see Messi play including the moment he stepped on the field.

The soccer legend was the most hyped player in the United States as he chose to come to Inter Miami over the Saudi League’s Al-Hilal. His landmark decision forever changed the face of soccer in North America.

The Argentine captain had rejected a contract offer from Al-Hilal that was estimated to be around $1.6 billion for three years with the Saudi club.

Messi was recruited by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham, who is the famous British soccer legend that played for the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS, Manchester United in the English Premier league, and Real Madrid in the Spanish. 

He spent the majority of his career in Europe where he played for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Messi was teammates with France’s national soccer team captain, Kylian Mbappe, on Paris Saint-Germain.

Beckham was interviewed in the documentary describing Messi’s talents. Beckham is the co-owner of Inter Miami along with the Mas brothers, Jorge, and Jose.

Messi won a World Cup title with his home country of Argentina in the 2022 World Cup tournament. This was his first title in his career.

Inter Miami won the League Cup tournament in 2023 against Nashville SC. Messi’s presence in the United States had set the tone for many soccer fans to watch him play.

“In 2016, Lionel Messi said he’d trade five Ballon d’Or trophies to have just one World Cup for Argentina,” written by BarcaWorldwide he once said in a statement on X.

Messi’s jerseys sales were the highest at the time of his arrive to the MLS. The city of Miami was filled with a lot billboards and people from all over Latin America hyped about his arrival in South Florida.
