The book based on Donald L. Miller, “Masters of the Air”, will stream on AppleTV+ on Friday that stars Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, and Nate Mann.
The miniseries will debut two episodes on Friday that contains a total of nine episodes for the entire series. It will stream one episode per week as it will conclude on March 15, 2024.
Butler is coming off an Oscar winning performance since filming “Elvis” (2022) starring along with Tom Hanks.
“Projects have changed. Opportunities have changed,” said Butler of his post-Elvis saga since playing the music icon. “But I’m the say guy. I’m the same person. In many ways, it hasn’t changed much.”
Butler continues to work with Hanks where the Oscar-winning actor is the executive producer for the film along with Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman.
“Masters of the Air” follows the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct a bombing raid on Nazi Germany going in a battle with Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich.
The group is faced with a daunting adventure of frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and a terror of combat at 25,000 feet in the air as they grapple with emotions to fighting Hitler’s men in the air.
Other men have faced various fates as some were shot down, wounded, killed, or lucky enough to make it back home, an emotional toll was exacted on them all.
This is a continuation of the World War II movies that Spielberg has done with Hanks as executive producer since film “Saving Private Ryan” (1998).
Jude Law’s son, Rafferty, makes his big screen war debut. Like his father, Rafferty made his debut on a World War II, where Jude filmed “Enemy At The Gates” (2001) playing a Russian snipper co-starring with Ed Harris and Rachel Weisz.
“Masters of the Air” continue to tell the untold stories of World War II through Miller’s book.
“The amers of the air is a tribute to the brave members of the 8th Air Force, who, with their courage and companionship, helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II,” said Goetzman about the film. “Tom and Steven have always wanted to visualize cinematically what our author Don Miller has called this ‘singular event in the history of warfare.’”
Hanks and Spielberg’s work together continue to tell the surrounding battles of World War II inspired by real time events that took place in Europe.
