Couple Holds Wedding Reception At Care Home To Include Grandmother

Newlyweds ensure grandmother can celebrate their special day at Stockmoor Lodge

A couple held their wedding reception at a care home – so the bride’s grandmother could attend the special day.

Newlyweds Stacey and Ashley Stewart were determined to make sure Stacey’s gran Jean would not miss out on the celebration.

Jean moved into Stockmoor Lodge, part of Somerset Care, several years ago – and was unable to attend her granddaughter’s wedding ceremony as it was too far.

Stacey, 32, and her new husband, Ashley, made arrangements with staff to hold an intimate wedding reception there.

The team dressed the home in the newlywed’s chosen colors, with teal and gold balloons, fresh flowers, and a special copy of their in-house publication, ‘The Newlywed Times’, to celebrate the wedding of the new Mr & Mrs Stewart.

The activities team, consisting of Louise Bone, Kate Chapman and Susane Audrey, put up decorations – even matching the colors in the reception to fit the real wedding.

Jean was “absolutely thrilled” to be able to raise a glass to toast her granddaughter and new grandson-in-law.

Sue Monger, manager at Stockmoor Lodge, said: “Thank you so much to Jean’s granddaughter, Stacey, and her new husband, Ashley, for inviting us to host their wedding reception.

“It means so much to have been a part of their celebrations and to enable Jean to celebrate with the happy couple and her wider family.

“You can tell from the beaming smile on Jean’s face just how much this meant to her, and that really warms our hearts.

“We’re really passionate about supporting our residents to celebrate special occasions with family and friends – receiving care should not be a barrier to making incredible memories with loved ones.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to help Jean do just that.

Sue added: “Congratulations once again to the new Mr and Mrs Stewart.

“On behalf of everyone at Stockmoor Lodge, we wish them all the very best for a long and happy married life together.”
