Mexican boxer Gilberto Ramirez, is attempting to get back on track after suffering his first loss in the ring on October 7 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) against Joe “Common Man” Smith Jr. (28-4, 22 KOs) will be a WBA crusierwieght eliminator.
Smith Jr. previously held the WBO light heavyweight championship before falling to Beterbiev last year. Due to the caliber of his opponents and the schedule he faced, he is still at the top of the sport of boxing and relevant.
“It’s a big relief not stressing about my weight every day in camp. It’s good. I eat as much carbs as I want now. Obviously, I stay away from the sugar and the crap food. But basically, I can eat anything I want and I still feel good,” said Smith Jr in media reports.
“If the opportunity came to me where I could fight one of those two guys again and everything was right, I’d do it. But I believe that once I move up to cruiserweight I’m there for good,” said Smith Jr. in media repots.
“For the Gabriel Rosado fight, I didn’t make the weight. My body didn’t let me. I worked hard that same day for the weigh-in but didn’t make it. I’m moving forward and moving up a division for new challenges,” said Gilberto in media statements.
Ramirez’s cruiserweight run comes after a lengthy, successful career at middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight.
“Now, I have this fight with Joe Smith Jr., and it’s going to be an interesting fight for me and for many of my fans as well. I’m more hungry now, hungry for victory. I want to feel that energy and that feeling again,” said Gilberto in media reports.
