Two Losing Candidates For New Jersey General Assembly Raise Over $100,000

Primary elections in the New Jersey General Assembly took place on June 6, 2023. General elections for all 80 seats in the assembly will take place on Nov. 7, 2023. Democrats hold a 46-34 majority heading into the election.

“This article details the three to five candidates in each party who raised the most money and lost their primary election,” said Ballotpedia.  This information comes from candidate reports to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.

The Democratic candidates who raised the most money and lost their primary were:

• Frank McGehee – $38,453 – District 28 (Finished third in primary with 20% of the vote)
• Craig Stanley – $27,787 – District 27 (Finished fourth in the primary with 6% of the vote)
• Eve Robinson – $5,277 – District 27 (Finished third in primary with 18% of the vote)

The Republican candidates who raised the most money and lost their primary were:

• BettyLou DeCroce – $159,571 – District 26 (Finished third in primary with 17% of the vote)
• Jason Sarnoski – $109,530 – District 24 (Finished fourth in the primary with 21% of the vote)
• Denise Gonzalez – $63,890 – District 4 (Finished fourth in the primary with 18% of the vote)
• Joshua Aikens – $56,767 – District 24 (Finished third in primary with 22% of the vote)
• Michael Clark – $34,884 – District 4 (Finished third in primary with 19% of the vote)
