Chantelle Cameron Parts Ways With Trainer Jamie Moore, Appoints Grant Smith Ahead Of Katie Taylor Rematch

Former light-welterweight champion Cameron sets sights on title fight against Taylor, switching trainers for new chapter in her boxing journey.

Chantelle Cameron, the former undefeated light-welterweight champion, and her trainer Jamie Moore parted ways and she appointed Grant Smith her new trainer.

At the news conference for the bout between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall on Monday, Moore mentioned their separation. After Cameron(18-1, 8KOs) parted ways with Shane McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions in 2019, she hired him.

“A new chapter with Grant Smith. I want to express my gratitude to Jamie and Nigel [Travis, Moore’s assistant] for the brilliant run we had together,” said Cameron in a post on social media.

“I love them both to pieces and will always be grateful for everything they have done for me,” she added.

In addition to helping Sunny Edwards win the IBF flyweight title, Smith has witnessed progress in Nico Leivars, Junaid Bostan, and Dalton Smith, the Commonwealth super-lightweight champion.

Cameron is scheduled to square off against Katie Taylor (23-1, 6KOs) from Ireland once more at Dublin’s 3 Arena. After Cameron confirmed in the London Independent that the third fight against Ireland’s two-weight undisputed world champion is scheduled for Saturday, May 25 at the 3Arena—the venue of the pair’s previous two fights—Katie Taylor’s dream of fighting in Croke Park has been put on hold for the time being.

“A date has been set, May 25th. Me and Katie both want the fight, it’s just to do with us getting paid the correct money. Croke Park’s not happening, it’s gonna be at the 3Arena,” said Cameron in media reports.

Despite a lot of speculation about Croke Park and requests for the government to intervene, nothing materialized. Last year, promoter Eddie Hearn had intended to stage a rematch between Taylor and Amanda Serrano at the stadium, but he claimed that excessive security expenses had derailed any possible deal.

Moore helped Cameron, a 32-year old British professional boxer. become one of the most successful boxers in Britain. He managed her victories over Adriana dos Santos Araujo for the WBC super lightweight title in 2020 and Mary McGee for the IBF title in 2021.

In May 2023, in Ireland, Cameron defeated Jessica McCaskill to win the undisputed super-lightweight title. This was Taylor’s first defeat of a stellar career, which the 37-year-old Taylor later exacted revenge on Moore in what turned out to be Cameron’s final bout with her.
