The choices are endless — nails for daily use or elaborate artistry for key events.
Hands On: Nail Grooming Enhances A Woman’s Look
“Usually, I always wear nails, especially if I have an important party or a meeting,” said Liliana Martínez Rufino, a bank employee in Veracruz, Mexico. “It serves as part of my professional façade.”
Many women seek to be at the forefront of fashion and style. Nails play an essential role.
“Nail application is not an expensive process, but I recommend going with someone who has a lot of experience. I invest between 200 and 350 pesos ($10 to $17) depending on the style and shape of the nails. I always try to use colors that can match my everyday clothes. This way, I always get the most out of them,” said Martínez Rufino.
The application of artificial nails varies, according to the materials used and a woman’s preference. They can be either acrylic- or gel-based.
Some women prefer to use nails based on the certain materials because their natural nails do not grow to their liking. Or they get damaged, due to everyday use or being bitten.
Fake nails help rebuild the abuse that natural nails face. They also allow women to creatively change the shape, size and design of the nails.
Though decorations can be simple, some designs are elegance. For a gala dinner or wedding, most women request more sophisticated designs. Some extravagant designs add rhinestones or mix striking colors.
“I always have to apply acrylic-based to my customers. The shapes and colors depend a lot on the age of my clients,” said Cristina Suarez Molina, a nail application technician in Veracruz.
“A 16-year-old girl can ask me for colors of an animated character, while a woman in her 30s will ask for deeper colors and a professional look without rhinestones. It all depends on the occasion, as some ask for daily use nails, while others want to look beautiful for birthdays, graduations, prom nights, or weddings. Prices vary, ranging from 150 to 350 pesos ($7-$17) for the job they ask me to do and the length of the nail.
Nails enhance a woman’s presentation, as well as the beauty of her hands.
